There are 3-5” of new snow in the Madison and Gallatin Ranges (most of which fell yesterday morning) and 1” elsewhere. Winds are 10-15 mph out of the north and west, with gusts of 20-30 mph. Temperatures are in the negative single digits F.
A chilly, mostly cloudy day is on tap. High temperatures will be in the positive single digits F at best and may stay in the negatives in some places. Winds will be light to moderate and westerly. Snow showers are possible throughout today and tonight. This won’t be much accumulation - a trace in most places and maybe an inch or two around Cooke City.
There is a trace to an inch of new snow and it’s snowing lightly this morning. Winds blew 25-35 mph, gusting to 50-60 mph, out of the west around Bozeman and Big Sky yesterday, backing off a little overnight. Winds are 10-20 mph with gusts to 30 mph around West Yellowstone, Island Park and Cooke City. Winds today will be moderate, shifting to the northwest.
Temperatures are in the teens and 20s F this morning. Temperatures today will only rise a few degrees before they begin to fall as a cold front moves through the area.
Light snowfall will continue today and tonight, with 1-3” accumulating by tomorrow morning.
Temperatures will be frigid through the long weekend, with high temperatures in the single digits above or below 0 F.
Yesterday high temperatures reached the low to mid 30s F in most areas under sunny skies. Snow on many sunny slopes became a little damp
This morning, temperatures are 5-7 degrees warmer than yesterday morning. Winds are blowing 15-20 mph gusting to 30 from the W and SW, except near Cooke City with light winds from the NW.
Today should be another warm one with sunny skies and a few high clouds. Temperatures should easily climb above freezing into the 30s F again. It’ll be breezy with winds from the W and SW continuing 15-20 mph gusting to 30.
Get ready for a big change in the weather. It cools off tomorrow with some snow falling into Saturday (only a few inches). On Saturday, the jet stream comes straight down from the north bringing some of the coldest air of the season with mountain temperatures well below 0 F.
This morning, temperatures are in the teens to 20s F, with single digits F in Cooke City. Winds are light from the west through the north. Stronger winds continue to gust to 45 mph in the Bridger Range.
Today, temperatures will be around 30 degrees F, with light winds except for the Bridger Range, where strong winds will continue through the morning. Snow returns to the forecast area on Friday.
This morning, temperatures are in the single digits to low teens F, with 5-15 mph winds from the west through the north. The exception is the Bridger Range, where winds are 25 mph, gusting to 40 mph. In the last 24 hours, a trace to 2” of snow fell across the forecast area.
Enjoy a few nice winter days before snow and cold temperatures arrive at the end of the week. Today, temperatures will be in the high teens to low 20s F with light winds under clearing to mostly sunny skies. Stronger winds will persist in the Bridger Range.
Since yesterday morning the mountains near Bozeman, Big Sky and Cooke City got 2-5” of low density snow, and zero fell near West Yellowstone and Island Park. Since Friday night snowfall totals are:
- 16-20” (1.2-1.3” Snow Water Equivalent (SWE)) in the Bridger Range and Hyalite.
- 9” (0.6” SWE) in Big Sky, with 12”+ in favored locations like the south face of Lone Mtn.
- 8” (0.6” SWE) in Cooke City.
- 3-4” (0.3-0.4” SWE) in Island Park, West Yellowstone, and Taylor Fork.
Wind has been out of the northwest and west at 10-20 mph with gusts to 25 mph, and was stronger in the Bridgers yesterday with gusts to 38 mph. Today wind will be from the west and northwest at 10-15 mph with stronger winds possible in the mountains near Bozeman. Temperatures are single digits to teens F this morning, and today temperatures will be in the teens F. Today will be mostly cloudy with light snow showers this morning. Near Bozeman, Big Sky and Cooke City could get 1-3” of light snow with less than 1” near Island Park and West Yellowstone.

- 9-12” (0.7-0.9” Snow Water Equivalent (SWE)) in the Bridger Range and Hyalite.
- 3-12” (0.2” SWE) in Big Sky.
- 2-4” (0.2” SWE) in Cooke City.
- 0-1” (0-0.1” SWE) near Island Park, West Yellowstone, and Taylor Fork.
Wind has been out of the northwest at 10-15 mph with gusts to 20-35 mph. This morning wind is out of the northwest at 5-15 mph, and out of the east in the Bridgers. Temperatures are single digits and teens F. Today temperatures will be in the teens F with wind out of the northwest at 10-20 mph. Snowfall will continue today and tonight favoring mountains near Bozeman, Big Sky and Cooke City with 3-6”, and 0-1” elsewhere.
New snow totals this morning are:
4-6” (0.3-0.4” Snow Water Equivalent) near Bozeman and Big Sky
2-3” (0.2-0.3” SWE) across the rest of the advisory area
Winds are strong, blowing out of the west (20-30 mph with gusts of 40-60 mph). Temperatures are in the teens F.
Snowfall will continue today and tonight. Snowfall may be heavy at times today around Bozeman and BIg Sky, adding up to 4-6” by this evening. By tomorrow morning, 12-18” are expected near Big Sky and Hyalite, with 6-12” in the Bridger Range. Only 1-2” are expected near Island Park, West Yellowstone, and Cooke City. Winds are forecasted to moderate a little bit, continuing out of the west and northwest.
A dusting of snow fell yesterday morning as snowfall tapered off and skies cleared, but there were not significant accumulations. Overnight, winds picked up around Bozeman and Big Sky, now blowing 20-30 mph out of the west, with gusts of 40-45 mph. Winds elsewhere are a bit lighter (10-15 mph) out of the northwest and north. Temperatures are in the teens F this morning (single digits F around Cooke City).
Today, winds will continue to be strongest in the northern ranges, perhaps picking up a bit everywhere as snowfall begins late this afternoon. High temperatures will be in the 20s and 30s F.
Snowfall tonight will add up to 3-6” by tomorrow morning across most areas, with snowfall continuing tomorrow. Island Park will get a bit less, with 1-3” expected.

- 7-12” snow (0.7” SWE) in Hyalite Canyon, northern Gallatin Range
- 7” snow (0.4” SWE) in Big Sky, northern Madison Range
- 5” snow (0.3” SWE) in the Bridger Range and near Cooke City
- 4” snow (0.3” SWE) in the southern Madison Range
- 2” snow (0.1” SWE) in the Lionhead and Island Park areas
This morning winds have eased since yesterday in most areas, averaging 5-10 mph from the N. In the Bridger Range winds are coming from the W, and there are a few higher gusts at the ridge. Near Cooke City winds remain a bit elevated blowing 24 mph gusting to 44 mph from the N. Temperatures are in the low teens F up high and upper teens at lower elevations.
Today will be stunning with a fresh coat of white paint, light winds from the NW, and cold air keeping high temperatures mostly in the upper teens to 20 degrees F. Low level clouds and fog will linger through the morning followed by mostly sunny skies. Friday will have a brief warm up followed by a decent shot of snow Friday night through Saturday.
